12 killed, 35 injured in massive factory fire at Egypt’s Mahalla

Twelve people were killed and 35 others injured after a massive fire broke out early Friday morning inside a factory and a laundry in the industrial zone of al-Mahalla al-Kobra, in the Gharbiya Governorate.

Civil Protection Forces were able to extinguish the fire. A security cordon was imposed around the incident site, and all the necessary legal measures were taken.

A team from the Public Prosecution office responded to the site of the fire, which caused the partial collapse of a factory in the industrial zone. Civil Defense forces continue to search for possible victims under the rubble.

The Public Prosecution team inspected several sites around the collapsed factory, including the boiler that exploded, causing significant damage.

They also inspected the rear of the factory, where debris removal is currently underway to recover the body of a police officer from the Civil Defense Force.

Initial reports indicate that an electrical short circuit caused the fire and a boiler explosion on the first floor, leading to the collapse of part of the building.
