Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat on Wednesday referred 163 defendants to the Alexandria Criminal Court in the event known as the Sidi Bishr massacre that claimed the lives of 29 civilians and attempted to murder three others. He also ordered the arrest of five other fugitive suspects.
The defendants are charged with terrorism, murder, blocking roads, disrupting public transport, bullying, resisting the authorities, possessing firearms and ammunition, vandalizing public property, attempting to occupy a government building, intending to disrupt the provisions of the Constitution and prevent state institutions from exercising their duties, assaulting personal freedoms of citizens and attempting to topple the regime.
