Two underground tunnels were found and destroyed south of Rafah city, military spokesperson Tamer al-Refaei said.

This comes as parts of the Egyptian troops' continued efforts to raid militant hotbeds, follow extremists and block support for them.

“As the armed forces continue to raid terrorist spots and follow extremists, North Sinai troops stormed several terrorist hotbeds,” Refaei said in a statement on Facebook.

The raids, which continued over the past two days, resulted in destroying two tunnels, one of which was divided into three other tunnels south of Rafah, Three main control rooms were found inside, in addition to electric cables, cables linked to amplifiers and oxygen pipes.

A militant was killed while planting a bomb on the side of a road. Six bombs, prepared to target the troops, were defused and 70 suspects were arrested.
