Cairo Appeal Court set on Monday 13 March as date for trial of 23 suspects accused of killing Major General Nabil Farrag, deputy Giza security chief.
Medhat Idris, head of the court’s technical office, said the prosecution accused the suspects of forming a group that aims to hamper the constitution and its application, preventing state institutions from carrying out their work, attacking freedoms of individuals, assaulting policemen, military, Copts and their places of worshipping and targeting public establishment.
The suspects are also accused of killing Farrag while performing his duty in Kerdasa. They were also possessing RPGs, bombs, arms and ammunition.
Farrag was shot dead on 19 September during a successful police campaign to regain control of the Kerdasa district of Giza, where violence erupted in the wake of the dispersal of pro-Morsy sit-ins at Rabaa al-Adaweya and Giza's al-Nahda Square in mid-August. Many policemen were killed in the events in Kerdasa.
