On Monday, Egypt received a gift from the Chinese government — 300,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi telephoned his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to thank him for the donation, presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady, said.
Rady added that Sisi praised the mutual support between China and Egypt during the pandemic, calling it evidence of the depth of relations between the two countries.
Cairo looks forward to strengthening cooperation and coordination between health care providers in the two countries, specifically in transferring the Chinese expertise and capabilities to Egypt, Sisi said.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Hala Zayed announced that starting next week, the elderly and those with chronic diseases will be vaccinated.
And undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Alexandria Saeed al-Saqaan said that the Alexandria Health Directorate will begin on Tuesday vaccinating medical teams in 11 hospitals with the Sinopharm vaccine.
Upon completion, Alexandria will have vaccinated medical teams in 17 hospitals.
