The home solar project will install approximately 3,600 solar energy units in four governorates, namely Aswan, Luxor, Qena and New Valley, said Mohamed Mostafa, the official responsible for the project. He added that 1,200 solar cells will be dedicated to houses in Aswan, free of charge.
Areas that will benefit from the project include Edfu, Abu Simbel, Nasr al-Nuba, Wadi al-Alaqy and Garf Hussein, he added.
One solar cell runs five bulbs, a TV and a ceiling fan at a capacity of 340 watts and can run for eight hours, according to Mostafa.
Mostafa said the project was started by the UAE in May.
The solar cells will be installed in two weeks and the cost of each cell is LE10,000.
