East Cairo prosecutors have released 48 supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy, while renewing the detentions of 700 others, over violence in and around the Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in.
Suspects being held will be detained for a further 15 days pending investigations.
On 14 August, security forces violently dispersed pro-Morsy sit-ins in both Rabaa al-Adaweya in Nasr City and al-Nahda Square in Giza. The clashes led to the death of at least 900 people.
Hundreds of Morsy supporters were arrested after the dispersal. They face charges of murder and attempted murder, attacking public and private property, disturbing public peace and security, terrorizing citizens, disrupting traffic and possession of firearms.
