5 alleged foreign drug dealers referred to prosecution

Egyptian Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud has referred five people to criminal court for alleged involvement in an international drug dealing network and smuggling narcotics into the country.

Egypt charged Manwar Abdel Hamid Khan from Pakistan; Frand Charles Reymond from the UK; and Jan Rone, Louse Dean and Vinda Ivon from Seychelles.

A state prosecution spokesperson said the suspects face charges of bringing three tons of narcotics on board a ship in the Arabian Sea with the aim of trading them in Egypt.

They are also charged with illegally entering Egyptian waters, the spokesperson said.

Anti-narcotics authorities had reported to prosecutors that a foreign group was planning to import a huge quantity of drugs from Pakistan to several countries.

Mahmoud then ordered the ship to be tracked until it was apprehended in Egyptian waters on 22 April.
