’50 Years of Yousra’ – El Gouna Film Festival celebrates Egypt’s biggest star

Celebrating an exceptional artistic career spanning half a century, the El Gouna Film Festival in its eighth edition dedicated a special exhibition, celebration, and symposium to honor star Egyptian actress Yousra.

Titled “50 Years of Yousra,” the event serves as a visual and emotional journey through the history of one of the most important icons of Egyptian and Arab art, documenting Yousra’s artistic legacy which spans 50 years, during which she has starred in more than 80 films ranging from comedy to drama to romance.

Since she began her artistic journey after completing high school in 1973, Yousra has risen through to the top, becoming an icon of Egyptian and Arab cinema.

Commenting on her celebration at the festival, Yousra said, “For half a century, I have had the honor of experiencing the magic of Arab cinema, telling stories that have shaped me as much as they have touched others. Today, for the first time, I am opening my personal archive to share the moments, photos, and memories from this amazing journey.”

She told Al-Masry Al-Youm: “This exhibition reflects people, films, and eras that have defined my life, from my earliest dreams to the roles that have become part of my collective memory. This experience blends heritage with innovation.”

“I am proud of what I have achieved and what I have presented. I don’t know how all these years have passed so quickly.”

During the symposium, Yousra added: “I have enjoyed my journey, and thank God I became an actress. Without the love of the people, no actor could exist. The love of your colleagues and those closest to you is also important. I am grateful to every human being who has supported me in my life and contributed to me.”

The exhibition featured rare photographs from various stages of Yousra’s artistic career, original posters of her cinematic and television work, and personal belongings that reveal a glimpse into her inner life.

Large panoramic screen displayed scenes from some of her most acclaimed films in a dazzlingly interactive manner.

For the first time, behind-the-scenes video clips from her famous films were also shown, showcasing a new look into the films that forged Yousra’s unique position as one of Egypt’s brightest stars.
