55 undocumented migrants arrested, drugs seized

 

Border troops with the military’s southern command arrested 55 migrants attempting to cross into Egypt.

The Ethiopian and Sudanese nationals were arrested while trying to cross the borders in the East Ouwaynat area, with the help of two Libyans. They had two land cruisers, without license plates, machine guns, ammunition and satellite communication devices.


Moreover, 3,620 kg of marijuana on a vehicle were seized ahead of being smuggled through the Ahmed Hamdy tunnel. Another person was arrested holding six kilograms of opium.


In related news, naval and border troops seized a sailboat at the Suez naval base carrying 73 bags of drugs, following fierce shootout with the smugglers. Another boat at the Alexandria naval base was seized. It was loaded with 249 packages of cigarettes, including more than 16,000 boxes of cigarettes, whose customs duties were not paid.
