Police in Minya arrested 61 members and supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood on charges of rioting and attempt to disrupt the referendum on the constitution.
The suspects were arrested during the first day of the referendum on the constitution after they allegedly targeted polling stations, threw stones at the troops deployed in front of stations and clashed with them, attempted to break into stations, used fireworks and ignited tires to block the road.
Authorities accuse the suspects of attempting to influence voters by offering electoral bribes for voting "no."
Security sources claim that the suspects in custody admitted to have taken money from the leaders of the MB to perform these acts near polling stations in six areas.
