Former Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud will leave to Kuwait within days, after he was appointed as a legal adviser to the Kuwaiti parliament, state newspaper Al-Ahram Massai reported.
Mahmoud will bring a legal team from Egypt that consists of four Egyptian judges as his advisers in Kuwait, according to the paper.
The four judges, including his former secretary, worked with him in the prosecutor general’s office before President Mohamed Morsy dismissed him.
Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Ali al-Rashid told Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Wasat that Mahmoud would be appointed as a legal adviser to the assembly, but gave no further details.
Morsy had issued a constitutional declaration on 22 November in which he removed Mahmoud from office and replaced him, sparking protests from opposition groups and widespread criticism from judges and prosecutors, who saw the declaration as interference with the judiciary’s independence.
After his removal, Mahmoud returned to work in the judiciary, taking over the presidency of an appeals court.
