Minister of Tourism Zouheir Garana said on Monday that his ministry does not oppose establishing a nuclear plant on the Mediterranean coast in Dabaa and that no investment or tourism groups have objected to building of a nuclear power station in the region.
Minister of Electricity and Energy Hassan Younes, however, denied that Dabaa had been selected as the site for Egypt’s first nuclear generator, saying at a session of the Shura Council on Monday that the location is still under study but will be announced soon.
During a press conference, also on Monday, Garana said that the nuclear project will not have a harmful impact on tourism investments in the region, citing the example of France, a major world destination for tourists, which builds nuclear plants around its tourist resorts and urban areas.
