More than LE130 bn in tax revenue received over nine months

Egypt collected LE132.1 billion in tax revenue from July to 31 March, said Mamdouh Omar, head of the Egyptian Tax Authority.

Omar told state news agency MENA that this year witnessed an increase in both the number of tax returns filed and the amount of money paid, compared with the previous year.

He said this confirmed a higher cultural awareness of the tax community and its responsibility toward the nation.

The number of tax returns filed increased to more than 1.57 million from 1 January to the end of March, with revenues of LE774 million. Last year, the authority received about 1.51 million reports, bringing in about LE624 million.

Tax authority official Samira Farag said engineers, doctors, lawyers and teachers are among those who committed most to paying taxes, something which she said reflects their response to the authority despite the difficult economic circumstances the country faces.
