The International Festival for Drums and Traditional Arts will start in Cairo on 19 April. The seven-day festival is titled "Joined by love for Egypt."
Thirty-five troupes from 25 countries will perform at the Citadel, including groups from the Maldives, Columbia, Ecuador, Togo, Namibia, Sudan, Greece, Germany, France, China, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Yemen's oldest folkloric troupe in Hadramaut is also coming, said festival organizer Intissar Abdel Fattah.
In the opening ceremony, all troupes will come together in one performance to highlight the importance of human communication, and to send a message of love for Egypt, Abdel Fattah said.
The country's biggest folkloric popular market will be held at the Citadel alongside the musical performances. Traditional products representing diverse cultures will be sold. North and South Sinai will have their own booths.
