Ihab Fahmy, presidential spokesperson said on Tuesday that Halayeb and Shalateen are part of Egypt, adding that Egypt will never let one grain of sand go.
In a telephone conversation with satellite channel OnTV, he said that such issues should not be subject to one-upmanship.
The Egyptian presidency recently came under fire after it failed to respond to statements made by Sudanese officials who said that Halayeb and Shalateen were Sudanese territory following a visit Morsy conducted to Sudan at the beginning of the month.
Sudanese Minister of Environment Abdel Qader Hilal had said that Morsy expressed "readiness to return Halayeb and Shalateen to Khartoum so that the issue does not cause problems between the two countries" during his meeting with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in Sudan.
Abdallah al-Moghazy, official spokesperson for the Wafd Party, told al-Arabiya satellite channel on Tuesday that Morsy might face charges of high treason if the Sudanese minister’s statements are proven to be true or if the president does not deny them.
