Presidential adviser for family and women’s affairs Omaima Kamel has said that, contrary to media reports, the law on protecting women from violence is still under review.
In a statement on Monday, Kamel said that the formulation of the law has already gone through several stages, including one in which different proposals were collected, such as the one submitted by the National Council for Women. The National Center for Criminal and Social Research also submitted a draft law calling for some articles in the Penal Code to be amended.
Experts from these institutions presented their proposals in April.
Once the legal committee formulates a draft law, a meeting with all the participants will be held to discuss and finalize the proposal.
