Egyptian civil society groups along with certain opposition parties have agreed to launch a “door-knock” campaign aimed at collecting signatures for the "Together We Will Change" petition introduced by independent presidential hopeful Mohamed ElBaradei's National Association for Change (NAC).
“We all must unite in order to gather the largest possible number of signatures,” said leading NAC member George Ishaq. “We have so far managed to collect 861,323 signatures out of a target of one million.”
Essam Sultan, member of the as-yet-unlicensed Wasat Party, for his part, said his movement too had joined the campaign. “We will work in all the streets of Cairo starting next week,” he said.
“We also agreed to adhere to the NAC's calls for boycotting next month's parliamentary elections,” Sultan added, pointing out that only the Muslim Brotherhood opposition group had rejected the NAC’s calls for a boycott.
