The start of the school year at Helwan University has been postponed for one week due to lingering security concerns in Egypt, according to the university's deputy head, Samir al-Demerdash.
Demerdash told privately-owned satellite channel CBC on Tuesday that restructuring work on site has also not been completed yet.
He also expressed concerns about Egypt's security situation. “If there is no security, no students will study," he claimed.
Demerdash added that Helwan University is away from the heart of Cairo so relief in case of an emergency would be slow.
University administrators are considering installing CCTV cameras and training up security personnel to help.
