Despite various initiatives, the Salafi-oriented Nour Party has failed to see eye-to-eye with the Muslim Brotherhood, says Nour Spokesperson Sherif Taha.
“The Brotherhood leaders are still insisting on unreal and losing demands to sack military leaders, reinstate the deposed president and restore the constitution,” he told Al-Masry Al-Youm, stressing that the group is engaging in a win-or-lose battle.
“Communication was with the group figure Mohamed Ali Beshr. However, communication has grown weaker, as he is no longer a decision maker within the group,” he said adding that the Brotherhood’s insistence on losing issues had made all the initiatives fail.
Taha also blamed the initiatives’ failure on the current authority due to security campaigns against the Brotherhood leaders. He also called on protesters to stop confrontations on street and focus on national dialogue.
Regarding the US aid to Egypt, Taha said, “It’s a message of US pressure that does not hold any economic value. However, it’s a moral message of significance, although this issue has become one of many that harms the Egyptians’ dignity and is rejected, especially since [Egyptians] feel they don’t benefit from the aid.”
Mahmoud Hegazy, member of the party’s supreme body, weighed in on the issue, saying ultimately Egyptian people have the say. “Talks over reconciliation between the [Muslim Brotherhood] and the state have failed due to the group’s insistence on illusionary demands of Morsy and constitution’s reinstatement,” he added.
Nour failed in the talks due to Brotherhood’s rejection of the talks, he told Al-Masry Al-Youm. He also called on the group’s figures to consider the country’s interests and accept the facts.
