The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) was ranked eighth on the Union of Arab Banks' 2009 report on the top-100 Arab banks in terms of asset size, moving up from ninth place the year before.
The NBE, Egypt's largest bank with a total of US$46 billion worth of assets, also ranked 237th on the report’s global ranking list.
The bank also came in 392nd out of 1000 banks globally in terms of net worth, moving up from 441st place in 2008.
“We've increased our capital with the profits achieved last year,” said NBE Vice President Hisham Okasha. “We've also succeeded in restructuring our operations despite the global financial crisis."
