Education Minister Mahmoud Abul Nasr said on Monday that schools will begin on 22 February with the start of the universities.
“This is the parents’ request,” he said, adding that there would not be any extra burdens on the students.
“The final exams will only have questions on the subjects that were studied in the second semester.”
The ministry had earlier decided that the midterm holiday would be for two weeks only from 23 January until 7 February.
Egypt’s primary education system was ranked one of the poorest performing countries in a 2013 global competitiveness report.
