Court rejects Muslim Brotherhood challenge against its ban

Cairo Appeal Court for Urgent Matters rejected on Monday challenge by the Muslim Brotherhood against Court of First Instance’s verdict ordering the group ban.

The original ruling in September banned all activities by the Brotherhood and its NGO and any association affiliated to it or receive funds from it. It also ordered the seizing of all Brotherhood assets until an independent committee by cabinet is formed to investigate them before the court issues final verdict.

Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy’s cabinet had earlier labelled the group as a terrorist organization in the aftermath of attacks against police and military since ouster of former President Mohamed Morsy in July. Though there has yet to be concrete evidence, the Brotherhood leadership is often accused of orchestrating the terrorist attacks in Egypt.
