The European Union on Friday renewed for the third time the asset freeze of the family of former president Hosni Mubarak and 19 figures affiliated with his regime which was overthrown in a popular uprising in 2011.
The current freeze lasts until 22 March 2015.
The EU had first decided to freeze Mubarak's assets in March 2011, accusing the family of embezzling state funds.
The decision, however, gives subjects to the sanctions a chance to request reconsideration of the measure before 30 January 2015, which had also been applied since 2011.
The move involves freezing the funds and economic resources owned or controlled by natural persons or legal personalities who had been defined as responsible for the misappropriation of Egypt’s state funds.
