Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority chairman Atef Abdel Hamid said that Egypt agreed with Russia to import fuel that is needed to operate the second Egyptian research nuclear reactor.
Egypt is working to secure the nuclear fuel required for research purposes.
The agreement took place through a cooperation protocol that is set to upgrade the first Egyptian research nuclear reactor, which Russia proposed its manufacture in the 1950s. The reactor started working in 1961.
Abdel Hamid added that the two countries agreed to carry out comprehensive security tests for the first reactor and also to begin feasibility studies for future projects.
