NASL in negotiations with Baradei, Abul Fotouh to join alliance

Ayman Nour, member of the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy (NASL), said on Tuesday that the alliance is negotiating with former Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei, former presidential candidate Khaled Ali and Strong Egypt Party founder Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh to join it and topple what it called military rule.

Nour said the alliance has nothing to do with the Muslim Brotherhood.

“We are not against the 30 June revolution,” he said. “We are against what happened on 3 July when the army interfered in politics and hindered the democratic process.”

For his part, NASL member Reda Fahmy said the Muslim Brotherhood welcomes the Brussels Declaration as long as it is consistent with the goals of the revolution and the demands of the millions of people in the streets.

“We are capable of recovering the January revolution,” he said.

He added that the Brussels Declaration was not announced to support Mohamed Morsy or the Brotherhood, but rather to defend the January revolution.

The 10-Principle Brussels document was declared last week by a number of Egyptian political figures. It seeks to instill unity among revolutionary forces to pursue the objectives of the 25 January revolution and end what it sees as military rule.
