On Wednesday, police at Cairo International Airport arrested a high-level official of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party before he boarded a plane to Thailand.
Police had received intelligence that Hossam Marghany, chief of the FJP's policies committee, was going to flee the country through Cairo airport.
Marghany had been sentenced to death in absentia in the Qalyub road blocking case.
Critics say these sentences are politically motivated and aim to silence opposition by the current authorities.
