Supply Commodities Authority has signed a contract to buy 240,000 tons of Romanian and Russian wheat to produce subsidized bread. It will arrive starting 11 August for ten days.
Khaled Hanafy, minister of supply and domestic trade, said an international tender was the first to be held during the new fiscal year 2014-2015. The amounts of imported wheat include 180,000 tons Romanian wheat and 60,000 tons Russian wheat at average of US$262.81 per ton.
The strategic reserve of wheat is within the safe limits. It is enough for six months, according to the minister. All the imported wheat access the country after being checked at the harbors.
