Former Presidential Hopeful Hamdeen Sabbahi said that the goal behind attending a meeting to support “the country’s cohesion” on Sunday was not political or to support the regime or political leadership.
He described it as a social meeting, indicating that remarks by Gamal Fahmy, member of Journalists Syndicate board member, on his behalf over necessity not to allow failure of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi were true.
Sabbahi also expressed support toward measures seeking interests of people and their revolution on 25 January and 30 June.
In a statement on Monday, Sabbahi said that he proposed during the meeting founding a national political bloc to gather supporters of the revolution and that it adopts the main issues of citizens, proposing policies to achieve goals of the revolution. He added that participants in the meeting agreed upon issues such as the dangers of a crackdown against freedoms, the need to alleviate the burden of the poor with economic reform, the absence of serious policies to fight corruption as well as the absence of policies to manage the relations with university students.
Participants decided to turn it to a monthly forum that discusses societal problems and submits recommendations to the presidency and authorities in question.
Former Muslim Brotherhood figure Kamal al-Helbawy, said the forum will tackle all situations in Egypt and that the attendees agreed on addressing all authorities in question over problems.
