Giza Governor Ali Abdel Rahman said requisition measures will be taken to carry out the first phase of the fourth line of Cairo's metro in March.
The phase stretches out from west of the ring road, on borders of 6 October City, reaching to the Grand Egyptian Museum, al-Rimaya Square, al-Nasr al-Sahrawy street until Haram street and Giza square, abdel Rahman told A-Masry Al-Youm. This phase will intersect with the second line of ‘Shubra al-Keima- Moneib’ in Giza stop.
The new line includes 14 stops in Giza (Giza Square- Giza- Misaha Square- Madkour- al-Talbiya- al-Matbaa- Arish- Maryoutteya- Ahram- Rimaya- Grand Museum- Nasr- Hadaeq al-Ahram- Hadaeq al-Ashgar).
The costs are estimated at US$1.2 billion, offered by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The metro goes under the ground until the Grand Museum stop, then above the ground at three stops.
"Properties that will be dispossessed will go to the benefit of the new phase," Abdel Rahman said. Most of the properties are state-owned lands and properties. The requisition will be only for establishing exits and entrances of the stops."
The new phase, according to the governor, will link 6th of October City to the populous areas at Haram, Faisal, Omraneya and Giza. It will also serve the archaeological sites in Haram.
On Tuesday, Abdel Rahman approved the expropriation map on Faisal and Haram streets as well as the traffic diversion there.
Launched in 1989, and currently operating three lines, Egypt expects to finish work on its fourth metro line by 2019.
