The feasibility study for the Alexandria-Giza-Assiut-Luxor-Aswan bullet train that was conducted by an Italian consultancy firm was released to Al-Masry Al-Youm on Wednesday.
The study says the project will be carried out in four stages. The first is the 220 km Alexandria-Giza line that will take three years to complete, for an estimated cost of LE19 billion. The train would travel the distance in 40 minutes from Alexandria to the Grand Museum in Giza, and would be connected to the fourth Metro line to serve some 50 million passengers a year. It would travel at a speed of 350 km per hour on suspended rails, with another fast train below it travelling at a speed of 180 kilometers to connect the governorates in that distance.
The second stage is the 400 km Giza-Assiut line that would take four years to serve some 20 million passengers, also on suspended rails with another fast train below it to connect the governorates in that distance.
The third stage is the 250 km Assiut-Luxor line that would take three years to serve 20 million passengers.
The fourth stage is the 210 km Luxor-Aswan line that would take three years to serve 20 million passengers.
The whole project would take 13 years and would serve 110 million passengers a year.
