Former Arab League Chief Amr Moussa said that parliamentary election is part of woman empowerment stated in the constitution, adding that constitution has granted women 25 percent of seats of the municipalities.
In a meeting with Mervat al-Tallawy, chief of the National Council for Women, on Sunday, Moussa said that the constitution gave special attention to rights and duties of women. The whole world saw contributions by women to achieve the roadmap, he added.
Meanwhile, Tallawy said that Egyptian women play pivotal role in achieving security and stability through raising generations and planting their love for their country and sacrifice for it in them.
Constitution granted women with 13,000 seats in municipalities, she added. The experience women will get through taking part at municipalities will enable her face extremism threatening the country.
“The pesence of women in parliament is a basic issue. We will never be satisfied that the Egyptian parliament be less than the Algerian or Tunisian parliaments by any means,” she said calling for participation by women in elections either through nomination or voting. She also called on heads of parties to to support women.
In related news, Major General Refaat Qomsan, prime minister adviser to elections affairs, said that article no.11 of constitution guaranteed equality and appropriate representation for women. He urged taking necessary precautions to ensure women are suitably represented in the coming parliament.
