The captain of the Al-Riyadh ferry, which is owned by the Transport Ministry, was sentenced to five years in prison and fined LE100,000 on Sunday for a collision with a boat carrying people on a fishing trip in the Red Sea in 2013.
Three people drowned, six others were wounded and a child was lost in the accident.
The captain was charged with manslaughter, destruction of public and private property, failure to rescue and endangering the lives of 1,200 passengers on the ferry that was sailing from Hurghada to the Saudi Daba port.
