The deathtoll from the collapse of a residential building in Sharqiya’s Minya al-Qamh rose to five early on Wednesday as three more bodies, including two sisters, were removed from the rubble.
The building collapsed on Monday after construction being done on a neighboring building weakened its foundations, Sharqiya governor Khaled Saeed told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
A count made on the building’s dwellers on Wednesday showed that four more people have yet to be rescued.
It is not uncommon for buildings to collapse in Egypt, an occurrence which is often blamed on poor construction and the disorderly implementation of demolition orders.
