The Egypt Youth National Basketball Team defeated Puerto Rico 67-65 in the opener of the FIBA U-19 Basketball World Cup on Saturday, which is currently being held in Cairo for the first time.
The U-19 Basketball World Cup 2017 is being held in Cairo from July 1-9.
The home-team conquered the game in the first and second quarter, leading at 26-13 and 44-27 respectively, with the help of Mohamed Osama, who was the top scorer of the game with 16 points.
In the third and fourth quarter of the game, Puerto Rico managed to catch up and were just two points behind Egypt, however they still lost to the latter team.
Egypt is set to play against Lithuania on Monday July 3. Lithuania defeated Germany in its first match, at 98-79.
The U-19 Basketball World Cup 2017 is being held in Cairo from July 1-9.
