Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Qabil attended on Saturday the delivery of the first batch of air-conditioned and locally produced double-decker buses to the Public Transport Authority, which is scheduled to operate in Cairo.
In statements to reporters, Qabil said that this installment includes 10 buses out of a total 40 buses scheduled to be run by transport lines in the densely-populated capital.
The minister said that Egypt has considerable experience in the field of manufacturing double-decker buses for the local market and for export, which reflects the global confidence in Egyptian industry and confirms the quality of the Egyptian product and its conformity to the highest local and international standards.
He added that the new buses are manufactured by the Egyptian company Kastour and authorized by the German company MAN. He pointed out that all the stages of manufacturing double-decker buses are carried out in Egypt with local component representing 65 percent, which is a great added value for the national industry in general and the transport industry in particular.
For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kastour company Mamdouh Kastour said that his company is manufacturing all modern transport of many types, including tourist buses, public buses, and double-decker buses.
