Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Friday with a delegation comprising representatives of American Jewish organizations, on the sidelines of the high-level meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The two sides held lengthy discussions about means of fostering Egyptian-American ties, in a way that achieves the two countries’ interests, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The foreign minister reviewed Egypt’s assessment of the latest updates in the Middle East, particularly the Syrian, Sudanese and Libyan crises, the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and the relations with Iran and Turkey, as well as prospects for achieving regional economic integration.
Shoukry and the American Jewish delegation emphasized the deeply-rooted bilateral ties and the specificity of strategic partnership between the two countries in different political, economic, military and security fields.
The talks tackled ways to revive the Middle East peace process, where the foreign minister stressed Egypt’s commitment to continuing the efforts aimed at bringing about peace and encouraging the Palestinian and Israeli sides to return to the negotiating table.
In this regard, Shoukry called for stopping the repeated Israeli escalatory measures, which in turn could contribute to creating an enabling environment for peace based on the two-state solution.
On their part, the American delegation members commended Egypt’s key role in consolidating regional peace and stability, in addition to its contribution to resolving crises in the region and in many parts of the world.
