At least 323 Egyptian pilgrims died during Hajj this year in Mecca, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported on Wednesday.
Most of the deaths among the pilgrims were brought on due to high temperatures, the AFP said.
The report explained that “All of them died due to the heat, except for one person who was fatally injured during a simple stampede among a crowd of pilgrims.
The death toll for the Egyptian pilgrims comes from the hospital morgue in al-Muaisem neighborhood in Mecca, it added.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that it has intensified its efforts in coordination with Saudi authorities, in the search for missing Egyptian pilgrims.
In a statement the ministry explained that the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh sent a consular mission to Mecca and the Holy Sites to monitor developments in search efforts for all missing Egyptian citizens, in coordination with the Saudi authorities.
It continued: “The consulate mission conducted field visits to hospitals and medical centers where Egyptian citizens are present to check on their conditions, ensure that they receive the necessary medical care, and take all measures to transport the bodies of citizens who passed away during the 2024 Hajj to Egypt.”
