PM inspects Azbakeya Historical Garden regeneration project in Old Cairo

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Saturday 6/7/2024 inspected Azbakeya Historical Garden regeneration project, as part of The Khedivial Cairo Revitalization Project in Old Cairo.

Minister of Local Development Manal Awad and Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sheriff El Sherbini accompanied the premier during his inspection, along with Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber, head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction Mahmoud Nassar, and a host of senior officials from the state bodies concerned.

Occupying an area of 9.8 feddans, the project aims to restore the garden’s heritage elements by safeguarding its ancient trees and Al-Tabba Area, renovating the ‘Crown Summit’ pergola, the historical fountain, Souk Al Silah Club, and restoring the garden lake, wooden bridge, the garden wall, and historical pergolas, Project Consultant Maher Stino told the prime minister during his tour.

He said the garden restoration work is now complete by 93 per cent, adding that the garden’s administrative building, restaurant, Romanian theater, and lake had already been completed.

Meanwhile, the historical fountain restoration work, under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, is expected to be finished before the end of 2024, Stino noted.

As for Azbakeya wall book market, Stino said an architectural design contest had been launched for students of Egyptian universities in June 2022 to come up with the best ideas for reshaping the wall, in cooperation with the ministries of housing, higher education, and culture.
