The consortium of companies undertaking the first high-speed electric train line has begun installing iron rails in various sections of the 675 km track, which will have 21 stations.
The first high-speed electric train line will extend from Ain Sokhna to Matrouh, passing through the new administrative capital, Cairo, Sixth of October City, Borg El Arab, and El Alamein. This network is of great importance for the transportation of passengers and goods, and will contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
The manufacturing of 3 high-speed Velaro trains has been completed, and the manufacturing of two more trains is underway out of a total of 15 high-speed trains designated for the line.
Additionally, the manufacturing of 5 regional Desiro trains has been completed, with one already shipped to Cairo, and the manufacturing of 7 more trains is ongoing, out of a total of 34 regional trains designated for the line.
Furthermore, the manufacturing of 2 electric freight locomotives has been completed out of a total of 14 freight locomotives.
The high-speed electric train in Egypt will be able to reach Cairo from Qena in 150 minutes, Aswan from Qena in 40 minutes, and Hurghada from Qena in 30 minutes.
