Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad said the environmental segment of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) is very important for curbing impact of climate change on cities, pointing out that the Ministry of Environment participates in nine sessions tackling issues on climate change and cities.
In statements to MENA on Wednesday 6/11/2024 on the sidelines of WUF12 hosted in Egypt until November the minister said, all cities are affected by climate change, adding that 70% of the world emission include cities, buildings and transport sector.
It is important to present Egypt’s experiment in merging the file of climate change with urban communities, added the minister.
She pointed out to the importance of taking into consideration studies conducted on strategic environmental impact which focus on the societal dimension in the planning operation of the new urban cities from a social perspective, counting on renewable energy and Eco-friendly transportation.
Fouad referred to a key project implemented by Egypt in cooperation with the Green Climate Fund to face the sea level rise in seven governorates using nature-based solutions.
The sessions will focus on the role of the Egyptian state to prepare a national integrated plan to adapt with the impact of climate change, she said.
