The Egyptian Meteorological Authority has announced a significant drop in temperatures across the country starting on Sunday, with a decrease of 4-5 degrees Celsius in most areas. The country is also being affected by an extending low-pressure system.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Meteorological Authority reported that Greater Cairo is currently experiencing scattered rainfall, along with strong winds and disturbances in maritime navigation. Light to moderate rain is expected in the northern coasts, central Sinai, the northern coasts, and parts of Greater Cairo and Upper Egypt.
The authority indicated that the extending low-pressure system centered over the Mediterranean Sea is causing:
Strong winds: All areas will experience strong winds, increasing the feeling of cold and causing sand and dust storms in open areas, South Sinai, and southern parts of the country.
Maritime disturbances: There will be disruptions in maritime navigation in the Mediterranean, Red Sea, and Gulf of Suez.
Cloud formation and rainfall: Low and medium clouds will increase over the northern parts of the country, accompanied by varying levels of rainfall.
Rainfall in Greater Cairo: Greater Cairo is expected to experience rainfall as the day progresses.
The Meteorological Authority stated that strong winds will increase the feeling of cold across all areas and cause sand and dust storms in open areas, South Sinai, and southern parts of the country.
It added that there will be strong disturbances in the Mediterranean and Red Seas, advising against all maritime activities on Sunday and Monday due to wave heights reaching 4-6 meters in the Mediterranean and 3-4 meters in the Red Sea.
