China has affirmed its support for Egypt’s legitimate rights to protect its water and food security, against the backdrop of tensions between Cairo and Addis Ababa over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis.
This came in a joint statement issued on Friday by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, during the strategic dialogue at the conclusion of the Egyptian minister’s visit to the Chinese capital Beijing.
China affirmed its continued support for Egypt’s legitimate right to preserve its “national sovereignty and territorial integrity” and reject any foreign interference in its internal affairs.
The joint statement stressed China’s support for Egypt’s legitimate rights to maintain its security and stability in the face of challenges, as well as its legitimate right to protect its water and food security and development interests.
Egypt stressed its continued firm commitment to the one-China principle and that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, supporting the Chinese side’s position on issues related to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, supporting the realization of China’s reunification, and rejecting external interference in China’s internal affairs.
The two sides agreed to work to enhance coordination to properly implement the outcomes of the first BRICS summit after expanding its membership, preserve the common interests of developing countries, and enhancing solidarity and cooperation for the “Global South.”
Both sides also stressed the need to continue implementing cooperation mechanisms within the fields of diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, production energy, and others, in order to push forward the construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative and implement Egypt’s Vision 2030.
Egypt expressed its appreciation for China’s willingness to continue contributing to Egypt’s economic development and national construction, especially cooperating in the fields of joint manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, science and technology, aviation, space, etc.
