Egypt prepares for worst-case regional scenario

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that his government is preparing for the worst-case scenario regarding regional political developments.

He assured Egyptians that the government and state institutions are focused on preparing for any eventuality, and stressed the importance of raising public awareness of the threats facing Egypt and the region.

The Prime Minister emphasized the partnership between the government and citizens in confronting any developments, calling for rationalized consumption of resources.

He specifically mentioned electricity conservation to reduce fuel import costs for power generation.

“Controlling certain practices and rationalizing consumption will help the state to continue,” he explained.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Madbouly said that he is monitoring the flow of trucks entering the strip, which Egypt has increased significantly since the ceasefire.

He added that Egypt will continue providing aid and receiving injured Palestinians for treatment.

The PM’s statements come amid regional challenges facing Egypt, particularly US President Donald Trump’s repeated statements about displacing Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan – which both countries have rejected.

Madbouly’s statements echo his remarks made in October about Egypt potentially implementing a “war economy,” noting the region is going through an exceptional phase unseen in decades.

He cited the uncertainty over regional developments forcing the government to take rapid action, according to RT Arabic.

These regional events have direct repercussions on Egypt, impacting supply lines and stability beyond just prices.

Madbouly said that though his previous statements were criticized, he assured that the government is always prepared for worst-case scenarios.
