Global economic thinker, Jeffrey Sachs called US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza an “American imperial mandate.”
If this proposal is passed by the Security Council, it will constitute the complete destruction of justice and peace for the Palestinian people and the region in general.
Sachs added, in his speech during the Al-Masry Al-Youm Intellectual Encounters event, titled “The Future of Palestine in Light of the Sharm El Sheikh Agreement” (which was moderated by the great writer Mohamed Salmawy, Chairman of Al-Masry Al-Youm, and attended by an elite group of politicians, diplomats, thinkers, researchers, journalists, and media professionals), that the proposed plan should not be considered a peace plan, but rather a continuation of the imperial process.
Sachs stressed that it would be better for this proposal not to pass.
He stated, “We can anticipate a better outcome than this proposal, which is welcoming the State of Palestine as a member of the United Nations, to build peace for the Palestinian people and the region.”
He noted that the whole world has been left apalled by the massacres committed by Israel for more than two full years.
Sachs indicated that if this American proposal passes in the Security Council, the will of the Palestinian people will be stripped away, at least for a coming generation.
He added that the US support for Israeli massacres means there will be no effective Palestinian state, noting that Washington, not Tel Aviv, holds the veto power.
Sachs revealed that Israel’s illegal acts and killing of Palestinians are carried out with US support, and what is being witnessed today is a continuation of the imperialism that began more than 100 years ago with Britain.
