Egypt wins membership on the Council of the International Maritime Organization

Egypt won a seat on the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the 2026-2028 period, during elections held on Friday at the organization’s headquarters in London.

Egypt secured 132 votes, affirming global recognition and international confidence in its pivotal role in maritime navigation and transport internationally.

The Foreign Ministry – in coordination with the Transport Ministry – played a central role in supporting this candidacy and garnering international support.

This was done through a comprehensive plan implemented over the past few months by the Foreign Ministry and the Egyptian Embassy in London, with support from Egyptian embassies worldwide.

Egypt’s election to this important international position is a continuation of the successes achieved by Egyptian diplomacy on the international stage.

The Foreign Ministry expressed its appreciation towards the friendly countries that supported its candidacy, affirming its full commitment to fulfilling its role on the council during the coming period and working to develop its mechanisms.
