Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi emphasized on Monday that the Nile waters represent an existential issue and are a top priority for the Egyptian state, during his meeting with the Senior Advisor to the President of the US for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos.
Egypt will not compromise on protecting its water interests, Sisi stressed, and remains committed to reaching a legally binding agreement that safeguards the rights of all parties and prevents harm to Egypt’s water interests.
During the meeting, the President and Boulos also had in-depth talks regarding developments in Sudan.
They called for concerted international and regional efforts to end the armed conflict immediately and halt the escalating humanitarian suffering faced by the Sudanese people.
Sisi welcomed the international community’s pledge of €1.5 billion at the recent Berlin Conference to support humanitarian needs in Sudan, noting that a comprehensive political process must accompany humanitarian intervention.
Boulos conveyed to President Sisi greetings from US President Donald Trump. Sisi in turn asked him to convey his greetings to President Trump, expressing his deep appreciation for the strategic cooperative relationship between Egypt and the US.
President Sisi affirmed the positive momentum currently characterizing bilateral relations, reflecting a shared desire to strengthen consultation frameworks on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
This visit comes at a crucial time, as the US administration seeks to deepen cooperation with Egypt, recognizing its pivotal role in stability in the Middle East and Africa.
