The Egyptian Cabinet on Sunday has reverted to previous closing times for shops, malls, and restaurants following the implementation of Daylight Saving Time on Friday, April 24th.
Shop and Mall Hours
Shop and mall hours will now be from seven am to eleven pm daily.
With the start of the weekend these hours will be extended, with shops closing at midnight on Thursdays and Fridays, in addition to official holidays and vacations.
Restaurant and Cafe
Restaurants and cafes will be open from five am to one am. Furthermore, restaurants and cafes will continue to offer takeaway and delivery services 24 hours a day.
Workshop and Craft Business
Workshops and craft businesses located within residential areas will operate from eight am to seven pm daily. This excludes workshops located on roads, at gas stations, or those providing emergency services.
Exemptions from Daylight Saving Time
The ministry has specified certain exceptions to these daylight saving time hours.
These include grocery stores and supermarkets, bakeries and ovens, fruit and vegetable shops, poultry shops, wholesale markets, and pharmacies.
Exemptions have also been granted to workshops on highways and at service stations and emergency services providing urgent services to citizens.
Shops in Coastal Areas
According to the decision, the opening and closing times of shops in coastal governorates may be modified based on a proposal from the governorates, in order to suit tourist activity and nighttime activities.
