The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) announced the start of a new heatwave across the country, beginning on Tuesday.
Temperatures will skyrocket, with Cairo experiencing a perceived temperature of 40C during the day, and reaching 45C in Upper Egypt.
The EMA explained that until Thursday, very hot and humid conditions will persist during the day in most parts of the country, with warm and humid weather at night.
It added that maximum temperatures in Greater Cairo and the Lower Egypt will reach around 36C on Sunday, rising to 40C on Tuesday and Wednesday, before dropping to 37C on Thursday.
In northern Upper Egypt, maximum temperatures will range between 37-40C, while southern Upper Egypt will experience even higher temperatures, ranging between 40-45C during the forecast period.
This makes southern Upper Egypt one of the regions most affected by the heatwave.
The authority also noted that high humidity levels will increase the perceived temperature in the shade by two to four degrees, making the weather feel hotter than the recorded temperatures.
The EMA warned of fog formation between four to eight am on several roads leading to and from northern Egypt, including Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt.
The fog may be dense at times on certain roads.
The EMA also predicted occasional wind activity on Sunday along the northern coast and the Western Desert, and on Wednesday and Thursday in southern Sinai and southern Egypt, with intermittent periods of wind.
It recommended following daily bulletins and updates, especially given the continued high humidity levels and their impact on the perceived temperature.
