Egypt welcomed the US’s decision to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
This step will contribute towards supporting efforts to achieve stability in Syria, enhance opportunities for economic recovery and reconstruction, and create favorable conditions for Syria to resume its role in its Arab and international environment.
In a statement issued by Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Egypt called for continued support for the Syrian people during this phase, which will aid in enabling Syria to recover and strengthen its national institutions, preserve Syria’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people for security, stability, and development.
Egypt stressed that respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable stability in the country and the region.
It added that achieving stability in Syria is linked to combat terrorism and extremism, and to dealing decisively with the problem of foreign terrorist fighters.
The statement added that this enhances the ability of Syrian national state institutions to carry out their responsibilities in preserving the country’s security and stability, as well as continuing to launch a comprehensive political process – with the participation of the various components of the Syrian people – in a way that preserves the unity and sovereignty of the Syrian state.
